Location: Shady Creek Forest - About 45 minutes West of Eugene
Cost: $5 registration fee
Description: Join us for a look into the healthy ecosystem created through sustainable forest management and how this strategy can be used to sequester carbon and sustain healthy air and water in the face of climate change. David Eisler, owner of Shady Creek Forest, will lead us on a guided tour through stands of resilient woods. Oregon forests are at serious risk from increases in disease, drought, and wildfires due to climate change. We’ll hear David’s perspective on forest resiliency based on his experience managing for long term health along with financial yield.
The tour will highlight both an industrial mono-crop and a bio-diverse forest stand to compare appearance and ecosystem balance. Many Oregonians view the seemingly healthy greenery of plantation canopies from a distance but rarely do they experience the industrial, simplified forest that will repeat itself every 30 years; but with David's tour, we will experience it from the inside.
There will be moderate and easy walk options offered to accommodate the most participants.
What to Bring: Please come prepared with your own snacks as needed, water, and good walking shoes.
Carpool: Please meet at the Beyond Toxics office:
120 Shelton McMurphey Blvd., Suite 280, Eugene, Oregon 97401 (google map).
Departure time: TBA.
